SUBMISSIONS

Submission Guidelines

CSJ accepts submissions of research essays, reviews, interviews, commentaries, travel essays, and poetry all year-round.

Articles submitted must be original, must not be under consideration for any other publication, and must not have been published previously.

I. Research Essays

  1. Manuscripts should be written in American English and have a word count of 4000 to 7000, inclusive of all text. The text must be submitted in Word format.

  2. The manuscript should use the CSJ Article Template. Download it here.

  3. The front page of the manuscript should have the following:

    • Title of the paper;

    • Name, institutional affiliation, email address;

    • Abstract (150 to 200 words);

    • A list of 3 to 4 key words.

  4. Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Manual), Seventh Edition (2020) for referencing and formatting style. See https://apastyle.apa.org/instructional-aids/handouts-guides for a comprehensive guide.

  5. Use footnotes to provide additional information.

  6. Place tables and figures near to where they are discussed in the text.

  • Tables should be in an editable format and should not be included in the manuscript text as images.

  • Figures should also be submitted separately in TIFF format and labelled accordingly. Please submit high quality images with a resolution of 300 to 1000 dpi.

II. Reviews

  1. Review articles must critically engage published materials and other resources related to CSJ’s aims and scope.

  2. Book or film reviews should have a word count of 800 to 1200 words, including references. The text must be submitted in Word format.

  3. Include a biographical note with no more than 150 words.

III. Interviews

  1. Submission of interviews with individuals from the field of Chinese Studies are also welcome. A collection of two to three interviews under a special theme may also be considered.

  2. Interview submissions should have a word count of 3000 to 8000, inclusive of all text. The text should be submitted in Word format.

  3. Prepare an abstract of 200 to 300 words and 3 to 4 keywords.

  4. Include a biographical note with no more than 150 words.


IV. Commentaries

  1. Commentaries must address contemporary issue/s that are relevant to the journal's scope.

  2. Commentaries must have a word count of 1,000 to 1,500, including references. The text should be submitted in Word format.

  3. Include a biographical note with no more than 150 words.

V. Travel Essays

  1. Travel essays must touch on at least one of the themes listed in the aims and scope.

  2. Travel essays should have a word count of 800 to 1000 words, including references.

  3. Submit one photograph in TIFF format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

  4. Include a biographical note with no more than 150 words.

VI. Poetry

  1. Poems written in languages other than English should be accompanied by an English translation.

  2. Submissions should be limited to three poems only. The text should be submitted in Word format.

  3. Include a biographical note with no more than 150 words.
